Adding detail to my story

Maori language week Koru art

Yesterday the whole school did the haka and it starts by putting our hands out then to our chests. When we did the haka we saw Mr Fletcher on the roof because he took a video of us. I am good at the days of the week in Maori but I am also good at the colours. Jayden

Contractions

We are learning to find contractions in our stories. We know that contraction are two words that are squashed together. I can find contractions easily because they have an apostrophe in them.

I am getting better with contractions and knowing what the two words are that are squashed together in a contraction. It is tricky to write the contraction and know where the apostrophe goes. My next step in reading is to learn about fiction and non-fiction.

Fractions

We are learning about fractions. We know that one quarter is when we cut something into four pieces. We also learnt about halves which means we cut something two pieces. Fractions are ½ ¼ and ⅓. With fraction you start with one whole and you cut it into pieces.

I am learning about fractions. I am good at finding halves but quarters can be tricky. My next step is to learn to add two numbers together by counting on from the biggest number.

Compound sentences

We are learning to write compound sentences. We know that a compound sentence is two sentences that we put together with ‘and’ ‘but’ or ‘because. It can be tricky to make sure we join two sentences together and not just another word to a sentence.

Counting backwards from 20

I am learning to count backwards from 20 and I am really good at it. I want to learn how to skip count to 30. I like maths because we can learn how to count.

Capital letters and full stops

Base words and word endings

I am good at finding the root words and word endings. It is tricky to read the letters and know which one is the root word and word ending. My next step is to find contractions.
